Master Weaver Yellow Mustache's Wife

by Master Weaver Yellow Mustache's Wife

This rug measures 48" x 71", excellent condition, c. 1935, woven by Master Weaver Yellow Mustache's Wife.

This rug appears in "The Master Weavers", Plate 223, p. 506. It is an understatement to say this rug is creative. It could be seen as a double diamond with an interesting center; it could be 3 column variant; It can be seen as an abstracted, figurative image. Here the black octagon (the traditional shape of a Navajo hogan) is the head and torsos can be seen above and below; turn it horizontally and it is quite interesting. The border is a master's unique rendition of common design elements.
