c. 1930's, double border

by Unknown

This rug measures 54" x 86", excellent condition, minor moth grazing, c. 1930's, artist unknown.

Great rug. Both borders make distinctive and very different statements. The inner border is most likely derivative of the JB Moore trident, 20 years earlier.

At first glance the central column looked like a good rendering of inter-lacing, over-lapping lines, which it is. However, the Navajo Sand-painting of the Night Sky depicts the Milky Way with a very similar effect. Add the stars in the center of the 3 main elements and in between them in background and that's my case for the Night Sky/Milky Way being the inspiration for the center column.

This rug looks GREAT on a floor.
